'Squad' member Cori Bush loses congressional primary

Cori Bush, a member of the progressive "Squad" and an activist, has lost the congressional primary in Missouri's first district. Wesley Bell, the St Louis prosecutor, emerged victoriously and unseated Bush, marking a significant political upset. Bush, who gained national prominence last year after defeating longtime incumbent William Lacy Clay Jr., was vying for re-election. She had entered the race with high hopes and strong support from some of the most progressive organizations and figures, including Senator Bernie Sanders and Justice Democrats. The primary race between Bush and Bell was closely watched as it represented a contest between the progressive and establishment wings of the Democratic Party. While Bush championed progressive policies such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, Bell positioned himself as a more moderate and pragmatic candidate.
